OLD FORESTER PARISTOWN HALL
PROJECT FACTS
A new, $12.0 M performance venue known as Old Forester’s Paristown Hall was constructed for use by The Kentucky Center for the Arts, in Louisville, Kentucky. The facility offers standing-room-only performances with a capacity of approximately 2,000 people and hosts a blend of contemporary national, regional, and local artists. The structure consists of a concrete slab on steel deck roof supported by steel joists and wide flange beams. The roof structure is robust in order provide acoustic insulation for the surrounding neighborhood. Additional viewing is provided by a partial mezzanine level that is comprised of a concrete slab on steel deck on steel beams.
Load-bearing concrete masonry walls and steel columns support the framing and bear on shallow spread footings and a foundation mat. The building’s main floor and its partial basement are below the 100-year floodplain, which required its basement mat foundation, basement walls, main level slab on grade, and perimeter walls to be designed to resist hydrostatic pressures. Rock anchors were used to hold down the building under these forces. The adjacent green space has been designed to host outdoor events, including screening films onto a large projection screen on the side of the building. Paristown Hall opened to the public in May of 2019.
